“I
don’t know, I didn’t have a theme this time,” said Meadham. “I
tried to make product, just things that were about my intrinsic
taste, in black and white. I suppose it comes back to an old Courtney
Love flyer with two little girls in black velvet dresses—and my
obsession, at the moment, with wanting to be perfect; a perfect
homemaker, baking perfect cakes, having a clean home.”
This lovely declaration is what art often means to its creator: a simple reflection of life and nothing more.
Echoes of the iconic Hole and Courtney Love velvet dress are all over the collection, but it is also full of Retro French Maids, Fanny and Alexander, Victorian Ladies, Death in Venice, Ballerinas, Fetish housewives and Coco Chanel lookalikes.
This is the original Hole flyer, the title of this post comes from this as well, it's a Sir Thomas More's quote ( lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman, and noted Renaissance humanist)
These underground grunge flyers are all very inspiring...
(A Vintage evening dress that reminds me of this collection)
Dancer Anna Pavlova
(Anna Pavlova and Charlie Chaplin)
Clara Bow and the French Maid inspired dress (uncle Karl approved)
(Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander)
(Luchino Visconti's Death in Venice)
(Coco)
(Elephant man)
Matt Momchilov's Miss World sculpture
And finally me!!!

Wow, wow, wow what an inspiring post!! This is one of my favourite looks of Courtney's. The black velvet dress with lace collar, white tights and mary janes. So iconic. I love that Miss World sculpture, it really captures the essence of kinderwhore era Courtney. I love the vintage Hole flyers too and I love that Courtney designed them all. I've seen this idea copied recently. Funnilly enough I was thinking about MK's last Spring/Summer collection and how I went crazy for pastels and candy colours last year. I'm feeling quite nostalgic. I love your illustration and I would kill for a black and white dress like that! You my dear are looking stunning as always. I love the contrast between the black lace gloves and your flame red hair and your make up is exquisite as always xxx
ReplyDeleteI knew Lucy would love this post, her gorgeous black velvet dress and stripy tights reminded me of some of the amazing images you've included! I love Courtney, the Pavlova and Chaplin photo (brings to mind Sarah Misfit & G's rock star trousers!) and of course, Death In Venice. You look utterly wonderful in your outfit, I have that hat in green but it's too small for my massive head and seeing how fabulous you look in yours makes me even sadder! xxxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteLove this post.. Pavlova - she is the inspiration to the famous Pavlova cake ? Isnt she ? you look so gorgeous and are such a clever artist !
ReplyDeleteOoh yes yes, I love it all!! And most of all the beauty that is you at the end!! You look marvellous. Love all the details of your outfit, the gloves are stunning as is this top!!and the collar you made is perfect!! Not enough words to say how much I love this outfit....gorgeous!! I hope you are having a wonderful week my darling girl!! Love <3 xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteNow this was a feast for my eyes darlin!!!! So many beautiful things to inspire where to start! Even though I have weird feelings about Courtney I can appreciate the train wreck that is her :) Those flyers are a look back in time that was pretty ground breaking for music. I love L7 btw:) This collection really got me at the black latex looking formal wear, LOVE THAT!!!! You would look hot in it! Your fiery hair is full of attitude and I love the lacy gloves and hat shots, you are so BEAUTIFUL and have such original style! The pictures of you really rock my world!!!!!

Exceptional photos!! Is that Grace Jones up there in all her intense glory? Wow, your blog always deserves a second look AFTER the commenting.
ReplyDeleteI need to find me a huge stack of mantilla lace headscarves. It's very, very rare for me to find the creative energy to watch the shows but whenever I see your interpretation, I'm INSPIRED!!! ALWAYS!!!!! I guess I can't be bothered looking at 50 shows that make me want to cut my eyes out, before finding one that makes me want to lie down and think for a whole day. This is one of my favourite ever posts of yours ... thank you, thank you, thank you for being glorious you!!!!!! Milione baci mia bella xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoox
ReplyDeletephantastic!
ReplyDeleteThere's just so much to love here! The grunge fliers still are really different and inventive. The Courtney influence is perfect and I love the sculpture. I also love your collages and your drawings. They're amazing. You look beautiful, I love your hellblond hair. The 50s shirt is amazing. I love how you've followed the monochrome theme but added your own flash of fire and gold to it. Perfect xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteI stood in front of Anna Pavola's Dying Swan costume at the dance museum in Stockholm. It took all my strength not to reach out and touch it. The Courtney art piece is equally touchable. Wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so full of amazing imagery and creativity, you put it all together with huge skill and an artist's eye.
ReplyDeleteThe clothes have such theatrical power, don't they? I have no idea who these designers are, but I can see why they inspire you.
Look at how beautiful you are! All the textures of your outfit make me want to stroke you! Love that lace blouse and the velvet skirt and the amazing hat, you look just stunning! xxxx
This is a stunning post, and your own photos are my very favourites! You look so beautiful and glamorous in that ornate blouse, like a cross between Courtney and Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde. So exciting, too, to see designs from MK, they're so talented. All very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful images I don't know where to start, I've always had a soft spot for Courtney and felt bad for her that she's often made out to be some mad monster, though she probably doesn't care so much what anyone says about her. And you look beautiful, you can be model, photographer, stylist, everything! xx
ReplyDeleteYou look great. That hat is gorgeous. I love all the black and white inspiration.
ReplyDeletei think the whole concept of your post is a piece of art on its own!! i´m totally in love with that french maid inspired dress! how gorgeous it is!!! but nothing in comp oration with you! i love that blouse you are wearing, the colors looks amazing with your haircolour, and the beret and the lace gloves are totally glam!
ReplyDeletelove and kiss,mary
So many great pictures that I have to come back to this post later today when I have more time, and as usual, you quit your posts with pictures of you who are so great that I'm stunned!
ReplyDeleteAnd finally... and finally... and finally... YOU! In all of your exquisite magnificence, my love! I love all of the amazing inspiration - Anna in her stunning pinstripe suit! And of course the iconic black velvet dress and the tutus and oooh that delicious deviant rubber bondage outfit... but as always, you are my favourite piece of art... painfully beautiful, stunningly vulnerable, amazingly complex and wonderfully approachable. I just fucking love your guts, my love.
ReplyDeleteSarah xxx
