Vintage is not a crime

This girl is MINORI a Japanese shironuri artist, her clothes are all handmade/ remake  items featuring vintage and antique pieces.
She invents an ultra modern style using an innovative signature makeup and mixing Japanese Lolita and historical accessories.
I try to inspires me a lot to this style, but living in a small town and not in Tokyo, it's not always so easy to find the right dresses to put together such impressive outfits.
Here you are other examples from Tokyofashion.com of this new incredibly fashion movement:

(70's Gunne Sax dress and antique white fox "poor thing" stole)

Gunne Sax dress, antique Japanese Himo (rope belt) and an amazing crocodile bag

Boys wearing antique traditional clothes (left) and vintage (right)

His beautiful antique hat.

There are also a lot of Western artists that reinvented the use of vintage clothes, probabily Alice Glass's style is more similar to mine

"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"...this is my motto and this exactly what I thought when I found this original 1970's coat with the tag still dangling on it

I hate beige, but we have only a charity shop (thrift shop) here and I can't resist to anything that isn't contemporary, this remember me of my blogger friend Curtise from The Secondhand Years who usually finds a lot of stunning coats and in one of her last post challenge herself to wear beige that is her own kryptonite.

This exactly what I tried to do, how to turn a dull colour ,that I usually don't wear, into something more personal and appropriate?

Well, I'm not very satisfied with the result, but this is the best I can do and I usually hate all my photos and my outfits

Some badges here and there, an antique belt and an antique rosary necklace (antique market) a JOY DIVISION mini dress (etsy)
handmade beanie hat (my lovely creative mom)

Dancing like Ian Curtis...
My bleached tights are vintage
The badge on my hat is a Clare's from Miss Simmonds says present

She sent me this great card and compilation too:

from Joan Baez to No bra ("brilliant " is not enough, especially if there is also a Jhon Water's casting and Brunetta's Baluba Shake in Italian in it)

I find also this beautiful music box during my trip to Florence

And this second hand Anatomy pop-up book

I love it!

  1. I think that new coat of yours is fab, it may be beige but it's got a fabulous cut not to mention groovy print going on.
I'd love to visit Tokyo and mingle with the fantasy fashionistas over there. When we first moved to London I adopted a 'cyber goth/cartoon cool' style for a few months and couple of times I was approached by Japanese tourists wondering it they could have their picture taken with me, I felt like a 70s punk at Picadilly Circus :)
I love how they totally embrace their style and not just wear it but live it.
I've got two Gunne Sax dresses and I'll have to go and look them out now...which might take a while...xXx

  4. I think it's marvellous...love all these inspirations too, the second photo, I adore!! Love clothes like that, but I don't always find them either. I love hunting for vintage items & pieces. I don't shop in the stores much any more, I thrift more as well. The Grandmothers of the world bring in some wonderful pieces to the charity shops. Am getting better at putting things together as well. The crocodile bag is genius, I want one ;) And you...you always look marvellous in anything you put on!! Even if it's not a colour you normally choose, I think you've done well to make it look great!! Stunning. LOVE xxxxx

  5. I have TokyoFashion.com bookmarked and I love it, too! My daughter loves all the Harajuku fashion and will sit at the computer scrolling through to pick her faves. Minori's mix of vintage and historical is amazing-- I love the boho flare/fallen aristocracy mix--shabby and elegant at the same time <3. I love Gunne Sax dresses. Going to be honest, though-- the fox and the alligator creep me out!! Cool for them, but I don't think I could actually handle that!! lolzzz You look amazing-- Joy Division dress, the belt is out of control awesome, the tights, boots, coat, hat... Beige is hard. I have a beige blazer I am sort of DIY-ing (it's taking months, bit of a back burner project) to make it cooler. Your jacket looks pretty sweet, though. Your posts are the best, Becky

  6. You've totally rocked the beige! Putting the coat (which is lovely, btw) with bright tights and Joy Division is genius! And the vibrant colour of your gorgeous hair also adds power and punch and pzazz, so I think this is definitely the right way to wear beige! And how great is it to find a vintage item with its original tags, I always love it when that happens!
Thanks for the mention. (Still can't feel the love for beige on me though!)
I've seen Gunne Sax dresses fairly often on Ebay, they seem to sell for quite high prices. They are quite medieval/folk style, so lend themselves to costume-y dressing up style. Cool images! xxxxx

I Think beige is ok - you can Always mix it up with some Bright colours and make it Work !

  8. I cringe at beige/taupe too. Then the other week I bought a beautiful full length overcoat, yes in taupe. It's funny to me were our comfort zones are. Years ago I bought a book called Fruits, it's photos of Japanese street fashion. I'm loving the Gunne Sax Snow Queen

  10. Your outfit is stunning darling. I love the Joy Division dress and the blue tights and all the little badges and accessories. You definitely rock the coat. Wouldn't it be great to blast Joy Division and all maniacally dance like Ian Curtis together! I love the Gunne Sax dresses and the way they've been styled. I can't help thinking how much effort that look must require though. That amount of time and special effort spent getting ready in the morning is my kryptonite!!

Btw, love Clare's compilations. I've got 'No Bra' on mine too :) xxx

  11. You have made a boring beige coat simply funky as all hell on you! I adore this outfit, it has ATTITUDE! Pairing it with that Joy Division tshirt dress is fab! I also love your turquoise tights, a favorite color for sure! I do love the style you have shown us here mixing our old stuff into something modern I really like this notion. I don't ever want to look like I'm wearing a costume and these looks are really very cool. I have been on the hunt for a Gunne dress but they are all so small on top.

Seeing you today has made my day!!!!!!I love you more than fashion.

  19. Oh the beige coat looks truly amazing. Just think its waited all this time with its little tag on for someone fabulous like you to make it into a great outfit!!!!!!!
When we had the shops we had lots of Japanese students who brought vintage from us, they used to combine the most amazing layers of vintage. I was always so inspiring.

  21. Your visions are great art fuel over here. You are so talented at putting an ambiance together visually. Is that a beige coat you're wearing? I thought it was paisley - you put it together so awesomely I don't think anyone sees neutral!

  27. Love this post!!! I am just learning about that Japanese fashion trend. I am attracted to it, but only parts of it, I think. ;) I guess I'll latch on about the time it's going on! I know what you mean about beige. Beige NEVER does me right. But the coat itself is cool. Love your posts!

  30. I love how you styled the coat! It looks fantastic! I totally love Japanese street style as well, but when I used to try and dress like it, I found it nearly impossible to find any pieces where I live. It was definitely frustrating! ;)
