Peau d' Ane - COMME des GARÇONS spring summer 2013

Comme des Garçons is designed by the amazing mind of Rei Kawakubo, who seems to suffer the pressions of the fashion system, in her last collection wanted to give vent to the urge of creating only for the increasing request of the industry.
She shown the collection in a claustrophobic space and her creations were described as 'feverishly assembled' like she felt compelled to give more to her insatiable audience.
The models worn wonderful long white haired wigs and stunning headpieces made from bits and bobs.

Since her collection seems populated with princesses in disguise, it reminds me of Donkey Skin .
This wicked fairy tale has a film adaptation: the visionary Jacques Demy's "Peau d'Ane" (1970) a pastel psychedelic story played by a Chaterine Denevue at her best and at her blondest.

Liliac fairies, Freudian kings, Blue Oompa Loompas and Talking Flowers are only few characters of this shimmering visual work.

Once upon a time...

A lovely fashion shooting I found inspired by this film, the photographer is Carter Smith:

  4. I want this taschen book about Rei Kawakubo for Christmas ! ! I read that the headpieces are made of tins and it was a collaboration she did with an artist! Scrolling down I thought that there would be your adaptation, look inspired in the collection at the end!! :(

You really amaze me with all the crazy film references! I would love to have a photo shoot inspired by this movie! The collection by Rei leaves me feeling a bit flat but you know me I need color to be alive. Your post is beautiful as always and I only wish you were in it.

Those last few pics are AMAZING - how can I drag a huge mirror into the forest for a photo shoot - I NEED to do this. Darling, I love your soul so much. Love you more than donkeys! Sarah xxx
